The Costa Mesa City Championship is known as one of the premier amateur events in California. Former winners include former PGA Tour players Scott Simpson and Mark O’Meara.

Last year, Lyon Lazare, a former Orange Coast College golfer, won with an 11-under 131, four shots better than runner-up Ryan Knapp of UC Irvine. Knapp, who also played for OCC and Estancia, also finished second in 2009.
