Ross, Pavlik fourth

April Ross and Whitney Pavlik finished fourth on Saturday at the Federation Internationale de Volleyball Beach Volleyball World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland.

Ross, a Costa Mesa resident and a former Newport Harbor High star, and Pavlik, a former UC Irvine standout, seeded No. 3, fell to Brazil’s Liliane Maestrini and Barbara Seixas in the bronze medal match, 21-18, 21-15 in 37 minutes.

The U.S. pair lost in the semifinals to Germany’s No. 17 Karla Borger and Britta Buhte, 21-15, 21-19 in 36 minutes. Borger and Buhte went on to play China’s No. 2 Chen Xue and Xi Zhang in the women’s final, and the Chinese team won.

Ross will be paired with three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings for the Gstaad Grand Slam in Switzerland, starting Wednesday.

It is Walsh Jennings’ first event since the birth of her third child.

Ross and Walsh Jennings are expected to remain a team with the intent of reaching the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Ross plans to play with Jennifer Kessy for the Long Beach Grand Slam July 22-27.
