Mr. Irrelevant arrives in Orange County

Share

You can say United Airlines is acting in the spirit of Irrelevant Week.

Two travel bags were misplaced and did not make it to Orange County with Mr. Irrelevant Gerald Christian, whose flight from Houston landed at John Wayne Airport Tuesday morning.

Christian, the 40th Mr. Irrelevant and dead-last pick of the NFL Draft selected by the Arizona Cardinals, is in town for Irrelevant Week.

A full slate of events are scheduled for Christian beginning with the welcome party at Balboa Bay Resort Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Christian, a 6-foot-4, 243-pound tight end, remained happy despite the luggage problem. He hugged fans and posed for photos with his entourage and a big welcome sign near the luggage claim area.

Christian’s mother Mary Ann Brown is in town for Irrelevant Week, as is Christian’s girlfriend Veronica White (sorry, ladies!) and their three-month old daughter, little Gia.

White’s daughter Chloe, 4, is in the entourage and White’s mother Diretheia Nichols is here, too, for the weeklong party.

A big, black truck picked up Mr. Irrelevant and family from the airport and drove them to Balboa Bay Resort, where he’ll be staying. He was scheduled to appear on an NFL Network show taping in Culver City before the welcome party.

Christian will take part in a charity spin ride at GRIT Cycle in Costa Mesa Wednesday morning. Then it’s off to Disneyland.

He will most likely be a surprise guest bartender at the Wild Goose Tavern in Costa Mesa on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, he’ll take on some waves during a beach day in Newport Beach.

He’ll be the newest Lowsman Trophy winner Friday night for the annual All-Star Banquet at the Balboa Bay Resort.

The week ends with the Community Field Day at Jim Scott Stadium in Costa Mesa Saturday at 10 a.m.

The event features a flag football game with charitable partner Special Olympics Southern California. The NFL’s Punt, Pass and Kick program and Play 60 Experience is also included in the event.
