Track & Field: UCI’s Sicard qualifies for USA junior final

EUGENE, Ore. — UC Irvine’s Lloyd Sicard has qualified for Sunday’s final in the 110-meter hurdles at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Sicard posted a wind-aided (+4.2) time of 13.86 in the first round to gain one of the eight spots in the final that is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Hayward Field.

Brandon Howard narrowly missed advancing to the final in the 400-meter hurdles with at time of 53.08 Saturday and Isaiah Thompson also did not move on in the 800 meters after a time of 1:51.60 in the first round.

All three Anteater competitors are coming off their freshman seasons at UCI. Sicard was the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in track.

The 2014 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships features athletes under the age of 20 and serves as a qualifier for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, which will also be conducted in Eugene July 22-27.

George does not advance

EUGENE, Ore. — Megan George, who recently completed her freshman season with the UC Irvine women’s track and field program, did not advance at the USA Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore.

George had a time of 14.14 in Saturday’s first round of the 100-meter hurdles and did not qualify for Sunday’s final.

The 2014 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships features athletes under the age of 20 and serves as a qualifier for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, which will also be conducted in Eugene July 22-27.
