Newport Harbor High pep squad brings back top award from London

Members of the Newport Harbor High School Pep Squad did their best to make sure London remembered the girls from Newport Beach.

The Newport Harbor pep squad members took home the top prize after traveling to London for the International Tournament of Champions competition, which was held June 28 at Medway Park Sports Complex.

The team performed a Pom Pom routine, which competed against other teams from England and France.

The NHHS team placed first and were rewarded as International Tournament of Champions winners.

“I am so, proud of these young ladies, who worked very hard to achieve this victory with a flawless performance,” Newport Harbor Coach Kris Higman said in an email.

In addition, in the solo baton twirling divisions for their age categories: Brittany Wells placed first, Alice Kate Willet placed third, Zoe Gleason placed first in two baton, and Matilda Higman placed first in two and three baton.

The team also toured England and enjoyed historical sights such as the City of Bath, which was founded by the Romans for a thermal spa, Stonehenge, one of the wonders of the world, Stratford Upon Avon, which is the birth place of Shakespeare, as well as Oxford, the oldest University in the English speaking world, and other sights around the city of London.
