Costa Mesa resident Ryan Knapp, who played at UC Irvine, Orange Coast College and Estancia High, has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships, scheduled July 14 to 19 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan.

Knapp shot par 72 on Thursday, after carding a two-under-par 70 on Wednesday at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. His 36-hole total (142) put him in third place and made him one of five to advance from this qualifying site.

Knapp tied for fifth place as a senior at the Big West Conference Championships in April.

He is among 156 to advance from among nearly 3,000 who participated in qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Public Links tournament.
