The Costa Mesa Aquatics Club are aiming for gold at the 2013 Junior Olympics in July.

This will be the first year that the new water polo club has participated in the highest tournament in the water polo club scene.

CMAC will be sending three of its teams to compete against the best teams in the country.

The 12-and-under girls are competing in the championship bracket, while both the 10U mixed and 12U boys will compete in the classic division.

The 12U girls and boys are coached by twin brothers Cody and Dustin Serrano, both former Costa Mesa High players. The 10U coed team is coached by Mitchell Grandia and Kimmy Morrison.

Club director Jose De La Jara is very proud that three of his teams qualified to go to the next level.

“We are still a new club, less than three years old, so having three teams compete at this level is extraordinary,” he said. “We have six weeks to work hard and prepare the kids. The kids are focused and determined.”

The Junior Olympics will be held in Orange County from July 27 through Aug. 4.
