Quartet on All-OCL first team for softball

Estancia High juniors Felicia Rios and Maya Van Den Heever, as well as Costa Mesa junior Anessa Farldow and sophomore Brenna Alvis, have all earned first-team All-Orange Coast League honors in softball.

Rios, a repeat first-team selection, batted a team-best .481 for Estancia, which finished 15-10 and 5-5 in league, tied for third in the six-team league with Costa Mesa. The Eagles beat the Mustangs, 20-5, in a tiebreaker game to qualify for the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs, where they won at Templeton, 13-11 in eight innings, in a wild-card game before falling at No. 3-seeded Garden Grove, 7-0.

Rios, a shortstop, had team-best totals of seven doubles and six triples for Estancia, and her five home runs were second on the team.

Van Den Heever, an outfielder, was second on Estancia with a .456 average and led the Eagles in home runs (seven), RBIs (29) and runs scored (34).

Farldow, a catcher and team captain, as well as shortstop Alvis, helped Costa Mesa to an 8-14 record, and 5-5 in league. It was the Mustangs’ most league wins since 2011.

Farldow hit .435, second on the team, and led the Mustangs with 20 RBIs. Her 30 hits tied for the team lead and she also had five doubles.

Alvis batted .377 and was tied for second on the squad with 16 RBIs. She also led Costa Mesa with three home runs as well as 19 walks, which contributed to her .537 on-base percentage. She stole a team-best 39 bases.

Costa Mesa senior Zaira Lopez and junior Jasmine Herrera are second-team All-Orange Coast League, as are Estancia senior Gianna Guyot and sophomore Nefertiti Van Den Heever.

Calvary Chapel sophomore Gabriela Lara earned league MVP honors, and Godinez senior Adriana Barrera was named Most Valuable Pitcher. Calvary Chapel won its ninth straight league title.
