Boys’ Volleyball: CdM’s Brooks, Martino share MVP

Corona del Mar High senior middle blocker Tommy Brooks and senior outside hitter Joey Martino shared the Pacific Coast League MVP in boys’ volleyball after the duo led the Sea Kings to league and CIF Southern California Regional Division II titles.

Brooks and Martino are joined on the first team by three teammates, sophomore setter Matt Ctvrtlik, junior outside hitter Ryan Moss and senior libero Tommy Casey. The five played vital roles to the Sea Kings outlasting Esperanza, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 19-25, 15-9, to claim their second Southern California Regional Division II crown since 2011.

The Sea Kings (30-3, 10-0 in league) reached the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Brooks and Martino are two-time first-team selections and they made the 37th annual Dave Mohs Memorial Orange County High School All-Star Match for seniors.

Brooks, a two-time first-team selection, finished with 239 kills and 82 blocks.

Martino, a two-time first-team pick, totaled 325 kills, 106 digs and 32 blocks.

Ctvrtlik amassed 1,012 assists, 128 digs, 60 blocks, 53 kills and 34 service aces.

Moss had 283 kills, 84 digs and 44 blocks.

Casey finished with 193 digs and 18 service aces. Casey played in Dave Mohs Memorial Orange County High School All-Star Match.

Corona del Mar junior middle blocker Augie Miller and junior opposite Kevin Fults are second-team members.
