Julia Boserup of Newport Beach won the women's open singles and doubles to highlight local competitors at the 52nd annual Roy Emerson Adoption Guild Tennis Classic concluded Sunday at Newport Beach Tennis Club.
Boserup topped Kenadi Hance of Torrance, 6-1, 6-0, in the singles final. She teamed with Megan Broccolo to defeat Mercedes Natvig and Mazy Watrous of Trabuco Canyon, 6-3, 6-1, in the open doubles final.
Amber Bill of Newport Beach was the only other local resident to claim a singles crown, topping Sandra Callanan of Corona del Mar, 6-0, 6-3, in the women's 3.5 singles final.
Other locals doubles winners included Mike Toole and Jamie Worley of Costa Mesa (mixed 4.0 division) and Kelly Knight and Kyle Laskie of Newport Beach (mixed 4.5).
Toole and Worley, who were not seeded, defeated No. 3-seeded Charles Schredder and Maria Tettman of Huntington Beach, 6-3, 6-2, in the final.
Knight and Laskie, also unseeded, knocked off top-seeded Vicki Cesario and Ralph Rabago of Banning, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, in the final.
In men's 6.0 doubles, the top-seeded Newport Beach tandem of Tom and Matthew Loucks edged No. 3-seeded David Nowick and Brian Matek of Gardena, 7-5, 7-5, in the final.
Local runners-up included Devin Bowen and Tony Bujan, the No. 1 seeded duo in men's 35 doubles, which withdrew due to injury against final opponents Arthur Hernandez and Carsten Hoffman of Huntington Beach in the final.
Donna and Frank Martell of Newport Beach, who were not seeded, lost to No. 2-seeded Jana Echevarria and Charles Vose of Long Beach, 6-2, 6-2, in the mixed 3.5 doubles final.
And rounding out the local finalists, unseeded Mary Konopa and Duane Wellhoefer of Newport Coast, were defeated, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, in the mixed 5.0 doubles final by No. 2-seeded Kelly Knight and Kyle Laskie.
Tim Kpulun of Fullerton rallied past Brian Battistone of Las Vegas, Nev., 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, to win the men's open singles title.
The No. 3-seeded tandem of Tim Mudrick and Javier Pulgar from Irvine got past No. 4-seeded Neel Grover and Chris Kearney of Laguna Niguel, 6-4, 6-4, in the men's open doubles final.
In the mixed open doubles final, Dianne and Ace Matias of Torrance got past Martel Campbell and Kim Trang Nguyen, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.

The tournament, which began on May 25, included an estimated 500 players with opening-round action at Mesa Verde Tennis Club, The Tennis Club Newport Beach, Palisades Tennis Club and NBTC.
