College Baseball: Improbable Anteaters advance to NCAA Super Regional

Corvallis, Ore. — UC Irvine won the Corvallis Regional with a 4-2 victory over the No.1 national seed Oregon State Monday, advancing to the NCAA Super Regional.

The Anteaters will travel to Oklahoma State, making their fourth Super Regional appearance.

With the score tied 1-1, UCI started the sixth with back-to-back singles by Chris Rabago and Connor Spencer. The duo advanced one base on a sacrifice before Jonathan Munoz was intentionally walked to load the bases. Grant Palmer singled to score Rabago. After Kris Paulino struck out, Adam Alcantara was hit by a pitch, scoring Spencer to put the Anteaters in front 3-1.

Taylor Sparks had a lead-off single in the seventh inning and came in to score on a fielder’s choice by Munoz.

The Beavers would score on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to make it 4-2, but Elliott Surrey would once again shut down the Beavers in the final inning to secure the win.

Andrew Morales started the game and went 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run and striking out five. Evan Mararino pitched 3.1 innings, giving up one run and recording three strikeouts.
