Seven boys’ and girls’ volleyball seniors and two coaches from the area made the 37th annual Dave Mohs Memorial Orange County High School All-Star festivities at Newport Harbor High on Friday.

The format is a North versus South in boys’ and girls’ matches.

The girls’ contest, which starts at 6 p.m., features two local players, Newport Harbor middle blocker Carolyn Bockrath and Corona del Mar opposite Jules Pouch, and one local coach, CdM’s Steve Astor, and they’re part of the South team.

The boys’ match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m., and CdM middle blocker Tommy Brooks, libero Tommy Casey and outside hitter Joey Martino will be guided by their high school coach, Steve Conti. Newport Harbor opposite Clay Carr, bound for Pepperdine, and libero Nic Sargeant will team up with the CdM players on the South side.

The CdM boys are coming off a CIF Southern California Regional Division II title, the second under Conti’s watch. The top-seeded Sea Kings defeated No. 2 Esperanza, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 19-25, 15-9, at Cypress College on Saturday.

In the fall, Astor and Pouch led the CdM girls to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA playoffs.

Bockrath, bound for West Point, helped the Newport Harbor girls qualify for the postseason for the 28th straight time under Coach Dan Glenn.
