UC Irvine men’s volleyball coach David Kniffin has signed a contract extension to guide the Anteater program through the 2018 season, the school announced on Tuesday.

“David is a young, dynamic coach who has continued to heighten the legacy of men’s volleyball here at UCI.” Athletic Director Mike Izzi said. “He understands the importance teaching on and off the court and is dedicated to the pursuit of greatness for the university as a whole.”

In three seasons under Kniffin, the Anteaters have won one national championship (2013) and claimed Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular-season and tournament titles in 2015 en route to the NCAA semifinals.

A former UCI setter, Kniffin is 71-22 and has guided the Anteaters to the No. 1 national ranking at some point in 2013 and 2015.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue inspiring greatness through men’s volleyball as we parallel the mission of UC Irvine,” Kniffin said. “I believe in our leadership and our service to UCI and the extended community. I think the best is still to come.”
