Legends FC, an AYSO girls’ U12 team out of Costa Mesa, claimed its sixth championship after capturing the Orange County Spring Classic last weekend.

The OC Spring Classic, hosted by Section 11, took place at the Jack Hammet Sports Complex and UC Irvine. Region 120 had five teams participate with only the girls’ U12 team, Legends FC, advancing to Championship Sunday.

Legends were challenged in their first game against a formidable team from Newport Beach and squeaked out a victory on a set piece play. Vanessa Carrillo crossed a perfect corner right into Emily Peralta’s path and she buried it for the game winner and only goal of the match. Both teams had ample opportunities, but overall the Legends defense was too much to overcome for Newport.

The next two games were dominated by the Legends, 4-0, with two goals by Jackie Corkhill, Daysie Hernandez and Sophia DeMarzo, and a 2-0 win with both goals by Emma Joyce, to move Legends into the finals setting up a rematch of the Spring League championship against Tustin.

The game started off with a quick goal by Legends and from there the floodgates opened. By the end of the first 15 minutes Legends were up 3-0 and never looked back from claiming their sixth overall championship.

Legends defense was in full lockdown and did not allow a goal all tournament and only two goals were given up all spring, an amazing accomplishment.
