CIF Southern Section Division 2 preliminaries

MOORPARK — Will Fortier and Steven Mantei qualified Saturday for next week’s CIF Southern Section finals.

Fortier qualified third in the shotput (57 feet, 4 1/2 inches). Mantei qualified with a 151-10 that put him ninth in the discus.

Mantei was 10th in the shotput (49-9) and Cole Smith was 19th in shotput (48-9 3/4) and 19th in the discus (135-4).

The finals are May 24 at Cerritos College.

GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD

CIF Southern Section Division 2 preliminaries

MOORPARK — Natalie Ward won her heat in the 300 hurdles (45.36) and qualified fifth Saturday and Rachelle A La Torre qualified in the discus for next week’s CIF Southern Section finals.

A La Torre qualified seventh in discus (123 feet, 6 inches). She is the first alternate for the finals in the shotput after finishing 10th (38-4).

Erin Barth qualified ninth in 1,600 meters in 5 minutes 10.68 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Hope Bender, Paige Fults, Natalie Ward and Lauren Loucks qualified eighth (4:01.25).

Emily Bacon finished 11th in the 3,200 in 11:19.33.

SOFTBALL

Playoffs

Estancia High opens the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs Monday at home with a wild-card game.

The Eagles (15-7) will play host to Calabasas Viewpoint (10-10), the third-place team out of the Alpha League.

Estancia is the third-place team from the Orange Coast League after going 6-4 in the OCL.

The winner of Monday’s game advances to play at Montebello Schurr (18-8), the Almont League champion.
