Sailing: NHHS Sailors claim national regatta title

ANAPOLIS, Md. — Newport Harbor won the Interscholastic Sailing Assn. High School Doublehanded Championship’s Mallory Trophy on Sunday, while Corona del Mar placed 14th in the two-day event hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy Robert Crown Sailing Center.

Newport Harbor’s teams sailed a combined 36 races in either a Z420 or a Flying Junior boat, with winds ranging from three to 15 knots on the Severn River. Newport Harbor’s crew of Campbell D’Eliscu, Madeline Bubb and Davis Hanscom won the B Division, while Newport Harbor’s Sean Segerblom, Briggs D’Eliscu and Andrew Person finished second in Division A, helping the Sailors take first overall in the two-division scoring format.

Newport Harbor totaled 187 points, topping St. Thomas Aquinas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which had 225.

CdM finished with 415 points in the field of 20 teams.
