SANTA CLARITA — Vanguard University was eliminated Tuesday in the five-team first-round tournament at The Master’s College.

The Lions, who lost their opener in the tournament, 1-0, to British Columbia, defeated The Master’s, 2-0, in an elimination game Tuesday morning.

But British Columbia ended the Lions’ season with a 10-4 triumph Tuesday afternoon.

Eddie Rivera threw a one-hitter against The Master’s, the only hit being a double in the fifth inning.

Brandon Sandoval was two for four with one run batted in in the victory, with Taylor McKnight adding the other RBI.

In Tuesday’s loss, Nick Rodda was three for four with two runs, Bret Collins was three for five with one RBI and John Schwer was two for three with two RBIs.

The Lions finish 32-23.

Cal Poly SLO 10, UC Irvine 3

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The host Mustangs trimmed UCI’s Big West Conference lead to one-half game by winning the series finale on Sunday and claiming the series, two games to one.

Cal Poly built a 10-0 lead, producing nine hits and six runs (four earned), off UCI starter Evan Brock.

Adam Alcantara and Mikey Duarte both came off the bench to go two for two to pace UCI’s 12-hit attack.

UCI (34-16, 15-3 in the Big West), has six conference games remaining, while Cal Poly (41-10, 16-5) has three.

Arizona State 6, UC Irvine 5

LOS ANGELES — The Anteaters concluded their season in the fifth-place game of the NCAA Touranment on Sunday at USC.

UCI (25-9) led, 2-0, after one period and upped the lead to 3-2, before the Sun Devils (17-11) rallied, breaking a 4-4 tie with two goals that proved insurmountable.

Senior Jessy Cardey was one of five scorers for UCI, giving her 58 for the season, one behind team leader Danielle Warde, and upping her school career record to 224.

The 25 wins tie a program record for UCI.
