Men’s Volleyball: Caldwell, Loyola repeat as NCAA champions

Senior outside hitter and Newport Harbor High product Cody Caldwell had 11 kills as No. 3-seeded Loyola of Chicago outlasted top-seeded Lewis, 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-27, 23-21, to repeat as NCAA men’s volleyball national champions Saturday night at Stanford.

Caldwell was third on the Ramblers in kills in the match and also in digs, with 11.

Thomas Jaeschke led Loyola (28-3) with 20 kills. Greg Petty had a match-high 23 kills for Lewis (27-4).

Caldwell had a kill to level the score at 21-21 in the fifth set, before a pair of blocks gave Loyola the championship.
