College Roundup: OCC baseball falls to Glendale, 13-0

GLENDALE — The visiting Pirates managed just two hits and made four errors that led to seven unearned runs against starting pitcher Art Vidrio in the opener of the best-of-three Super Regional round of the Southern California playoffs on Friday.

Vidrio allowed 10 hits and two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one in absorbing only his second loss in 10 decisions this season.

The loss snapped an 11-game postseason winning streak for OCC (23-16).

Ben McKendall went the distance for Glendale (21-18). He walked none and struck out five.

The two teams will play Game 2 on Saturday at 1 p.m. Should OCC even the series, the deciding game would be played Sunday.

Cal Poly 9, UC Irvine 6

The Aneaters matched the Mustangs with 11 hits in the Big West Conference game Friday.

Mikey Duarte, Mitchell Holland and Cole Kreuter (one RBI) had two hits each for UCI (29-17, 11-5 in conference).

Cal Poly is 23-23, 10-6
