High School Roundup: Newport Harbor’s Stalder wins Sunset League boys’ tennis singles title

SEAL BEACH — Top-seeded Newport Harbor senior Reese Stalder won the singles league title Thursday at Seal Beach Tennis Center, while Newport’s doubles team of David Lee and Mark Schaefer was runner-up.
Stalder defeated No. 5-seeded Brendan Barr from Marina, 6-3, 6-1, in the semifinals before topping No. 3 Max Cancilla of Marina in the championship match, 6-2, 6-1.
Lee and Schaefer, the No. 2 seeds in doubles, outlasted a team from Marina, 6-3, 6-0, 10-4, in the semifinals before falling to top-seeded Vatsal Bajpai and Kyle McCann from Los Alamitos in the final.
Stalder, as well as Lee and Schaefer, all qualify for the CIF Individuals tournament, which begins May 28.

Pacific Coast League finals
IRVINE — Top-seeded Bjorn Hoffmann of Corona del Mar fell in the championship match to Konrad Kozlowski of University, 6-3, 6-3, on Thursday at Woodbridge High.
Hoffmann had beaten Joshua Yoo of Beckman, 6-4, 6-1, in the semifinals. He advances to the CIF Individuals tournament, which begins May 28.
