BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Beckman

Ryan Moss had 12 kills, two block assists, four digs to help the Sea Kings win 25-12, 25-10, 25-21 and clinch the Pacific Coast League title Friday.

Sam Kobrine (11 kills, one block), Kevin Fults (seven kills, five blocks), Augie Miller (seven kills, three blocks), Will Hunter (five kills, four blocks) and Matt Ctvrtlik (38 assists, two blocks and five digs) also contributed for CdM, 22-6, 9-0 in league).

Newport Harbor is 6-7, 6-3, in league, tied for second place with Los Alamitos.

Crean Lutheran def. Sage Hill

IRVINE — Logan Senn finished with a season-high 15 kills for the Lightning in an Academy League match that Crean Lutheran won, 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-15, on Wednesday.

Sage Hill’s Zach Drobenko had 11 kills.

BASEBALL

University 4, Corona del Mar 2

The Sea Kings could not overcome a 4-0 deficit and fell in the Pacific Coast League game Friday at CdM.

Still, CdM (15-7, 7-4 in league) is in contention for first place in league, as the Sea Kings must sweep first-place Beckman next week.

CdM will try to begin with a win on Tuesday, when standout pitcher Evan Larsen takes the mound at CdM, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Uni’s Neil Boudreau pitched a solid, complete game, allowing six hits for the Trojans (9-13, 5-6), who also have two wins against Beckman.

The Sea Kings now turn their attention to their biggest game of the season.

“Hopefully when we get Beckman on Tuesday we get back to our line drive and ground ball approach,” CdM Coach John Emme said. “If we wanted to win league we have to beat Beckman twice. We don’t have a lot of wiggle room now. We start with one game at a time. We have Evan on Tuesday at home. It’s a big game. We’re excited for the challenge.”

Robby Hurst led CdM by going three for four.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crean Lutheran 9, Sage Hill 9, (76-75 games)

William Sanderson and Grant Janavs won twice in doubles action during an Academy League match that the Lightning lost in total games at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach on Friday, handing Sage Hill its first league setback.

Sage Hill, which is ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll, split its two matches with No. 8 Crean Lutheran and is now 7-1 in league. Crean Lutheran, which is 6-1 in league, can share the league title with the Lightning by beating Whitney on Tuesday. A Crean Lutheran loss and Sage Hill is the outright league champion.

Sage Hill closes out the regular season with a nonleague match at Laguna Beach, the top-ranked team in Division 4, on Monday at 3:15 p.m.
