Fountain Valley def. Newport Harbor

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — The Sailors suffered a Sunset League upset to the Barons, who won, 21-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 15-11, Tuesday.

Newport Harbor (9-17, 4-4 in league) now must win its final two matches of the regular season to reach the CIF Southern Section playoffs. If the Sailors split, they will most likely need to compete in a league-playoff match to qualify.

Newport Harbor plays at Los Alamitos on Thursday, and then at home on Tuesday for senior night against Marina. The Sailors swept Los Al in the first round of league play and beat the Vikings in five.

Against Fountain Valley, Wyatt Walton led with 16 kills. Clay Car (12 kills), Grady Kimme (14 kills, three blocks), Landon Monroe (51 assists) and Nic Sargeant (14 digs) also contributed.

Battle of the bay is Friday. If we win both matches we are sole second. If lose one of the two we could be out. BOTB is at Newport
