Orange Coast College sophomore receiver Mark Munson will continue his football career at Angelo State University, Pirates Coach Kevin Emerson announced Tuesday.

Munson made a school-single-season-record 68 receptions for 989 yards and eight touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Southern Conference honoree.

Munson ranked second in OCC single-season annals in receiving yards and No. 2 in the 37-school Southern California Football Assn. in receiving yards per game.

“I am very happy for Mark and seeing his efforts being rewarded,” Emerson said in a statement. “Mark is a Division I player that had [NCAA eligibility restrictions] that only permitted him to go to Division II.

“The OCC football program helped me achieve a full athletic scholarship by allowing me to compete against some of the top talent in Southern California,” Munson said. “I can’t express enough how thankful I am of all the coaches, professors, and the rest of the college for giving me a chance to achieve my goal of playing at a four-year university.”

Emerson also said OCC freshman receiver Davaysia Hagger, a first-team all-conference performer who had 43 catches for 630 yards and six touchdowns in 2014, had a recruiting visit to TCU over the weekend.

Hagger, who began his collegiate football career as a walk-on at Oregon, is also an all-conference basketball player for OCC. He averaged 14.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in the 2014-15 season.
