Briefs: Fight Club starts fourth season Thursday

Fight Club OC opens its fourth season inside the Hangar at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Two undefeated boxers — Scott Alexander and Sukhrab Shidaev — headline the eight-bout card, which features boxing and mixed martial arts.

Alexander (9-0-1, five knockouts), out of Los Angeles, faces Palmdale’s Geovanni Sarran (4-6) in a six-round heavyweight fight.

Shidaev (8-0, six knockouts), a Russian super welterweight, goes up against Chicagoan David Thomas (3-0).

In MMA action, Fullerton’s Curtis Millender (4-0-1) meets Huntington Beach’s John Mercurio (6-5) in a welterweight mach. The other MMA fight is in the bantamweight division, Huntington Beach’s Joe Murphy (6-1) against Los Angeles’ Victor Henry (6-0).

Two other boxing matches are in the super welterweight division. Tehachapi’s Neeco Macias (4-0) squares up with Long Beach’s Julian Cruz (2-3), while Anaheim’s Tony Thompson makes his debut against San Bernardino’s Greg Baca (0-4).

Jones Cup coming

Shady Canyon Golf Club will host the 15th annual Jones Cup on June 25 at noon.

Shady Canyon, from Irvine, is playing host to the event for the first time. The event features the five local country clubs, Big Canyon, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana, competing in an 18-hole, two-best-ball format.

Big Canyon won last year’s event for the third straight time and ninth time overall.
