Men’s Volleyball: La Cavera repeats as MPSF Player of the Week

UC Irvine senior Zack La Cavera has been named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week in men’s volleyball for the second straight week.

The 6-foot-4 opposite continued his offensive dominance in road victories over UC Santa Barbara (Wednesday) and UCLA (Friday).

The opposite was one shy of his career-high with a match-high 22 kills against UCSB, hitting .442. In the fifth set, he used his other tools, recording an ace and a solo block to help secure the victory.

La Cavera recorded 20 kills against the Bruins and former UCI Coach John Speraw. La Cavera took over in the final three sets, hitting .600 with 19 kills and one error on 30 attempts. He also fired three aces and had another solo block in the match.

For the week, La Cavera averaged 4.67 kills, 5.33 points and 1.22 digs, while hitting .444.

UCI plays host to its final regular-season match Saturday against UC San Diego at 7 p.m. at the Bren Events Center. The Anteaters will host a MPSF quarterfinal match on April 25.
