College Baseball: UCI’s Hiura honored

UC Irvine freshman outfielder Keston Hiura has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in baseball.

Hiura hit .450 with nine hits and eight runs batted in to help UCI score double-digit runs in four wins over San Diego and Big West rival UC Riverside last week.

He had three doubles and scored seven runs to extend his hitting streak to 15 games entering UCI’s nonconference game at San Diego State on Tuesday.

He had at least two RBIs in three of the four games last week.

He entered Tuesday leading UCI with a .378 batting average, with a team-best 42 hits and 26 RBIs. He was second on the team with nine doubles and four home runs.
