Brinkley posted a career-best 25 digs, which set a new UCI record for digs in a match. The previous rally-scoring record was 21 by Brent Asuka versus CSUN in 2007 and the all-era record was 23 by James Felton against CSUN in 1991. The libero’s 25 digs is the most by a MPSF player since Erik Shoji had 26 in four sets on Feb. 13, 2009.

La Cavera pounded a career-high 23 kills, hitting .465 (23-3-43) from the right side. He also added five digs and two total blocks.

Outside hitter Tamir Hershko hit .600 on 16 kills in 25 attempts with just one attack error. Outside hitter Travis Woloson and middle blocker Jason Agopian each added 10 kills with Woloson totaling seven digs and Agopian with five. Middle blocker Andrew Benz had a team-best three blocks to go with three kills, while outside hitters Thomas Hodges and Reid Dominquez had three and two kills, respectively. UCI (22-4, 16-3 in the MPSF) had solid setting from both Roberto Frazzoni with 35 set assists and five digs and Michael Saeta with 23 set assists, an ace and a kill.

UCI will hit the road next week, traveling to UC Santa Barbara Wednesday and UCLA Friday. The match against the Bruins will start at 8 p.m. and be televised on the Pac-12 Network.

Orange Coast def. Palomar

Adrian Faitalia had 11 kills to lead the Pirates to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 Pacific Coast Conference win Friday at OCC.

With the final week of PCC action left, the Pirates (14-4, 11-1 in conference) remain tied with Grossmont (14-4, 11-1), while Irvine Valley (12-4, 10-2) is just one game behind the leaders. Coast will wrap up the regular season in complete control of its destiny with a road matchup at Grossmont on Wednesday (6 p.m.) and a road matchup at Irvine Valley on Friday (6 p.m.).

Steven Duhoux dished out 27 assists, while Torrey Smith and Paio led the defense with four digs each.

In Wednesday’s upcoming matchup with the Griffins, Grossmont looks to return the favor on the Pirates, who swept past GC, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 on March 13.

It will be the Pirates looking for revenge on the Lasers on Friday night. IVC beat OCC in a five-set thriller, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 31-33, 16-14, on March 18 inside the Peterson Gym.
