Muñoz leaves Estancia

In a six-month span, Paul Muñoz has left both of the Estancia High volleyball programs.

Muñoz stepped down as the girls’ coach on Wednesday, said Jessica Perry, the girls’ athletic director at Estancia. Perry said Muñoz resigned for the same reasons he did from the boys’ post in October, citing family, wanting to spend more time with his newborn son, Mason, and running his growing club team, Ohana Athletic Club.

“It’s going to be hard to replace someone who has the kind of credentials he has,” Perry said of Muñoz, who played on the U.S. national men’s volleyball team and professionally overseas.

Muñoz led the Estancia girls for four seasons, each time they qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs. Estancia placed third in the Orange Coast League with a 6-4 record last season. The Eagles, who went 9-16 overall, lost in the first round of Division 1A playoffs at Aliso Niguel.

Muñoz guided the boys for four seasons. Last season, the Eagles went winless in 15 matches, 10 in league.

Perry said those interested in the Estancia girls’ coaching position can email her at jperry@nmusd.us.
