High School Football: Tars’ Cablay bound for Cal Lutheran

Share

Newport Harbor High senior wide receiver Keaton Cablay has committed to play football at Cal Lutheran, said Sailors Coach Jeff Brinkley.

“It’s a great spot for him,” Brinkley said, referring to the NCAA Division III program in Thousand Oaks that last season went 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, tying the Kingsmen for third place. “They throw the football a lot out there and it’s a great opportunity for him to catch passes out there. It’s a great school and area.”

Cablay, the Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team Offensive Player of the Year, led the area in receptions (69), receiving yards (914) and receiving touchdowns (13) last season. He also tied the Newport Harbor single-game records for catches (14) and receiving touchdowns (four).

Cablay, who earned first-team All-Sunset League and second-team All-Orange County honors, helped Newport Harbor (5-6, 3-2 in league) place third in league and reach the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division playoffs.
