High School Roundup: CdM baseball earns first win of season

BASEBALL

Corona del Mar 9, Norhwood 2

IRVINE — Tyler Duncan, the winning pitcher, went three for four with two runs batted in and a double to help the Sea Kings grab their first win of the season Tuesday.

Brett Olson went three for four with an RBI and a double, while Wyatt Zalewski, Nolan McCarthy and Sam Younesi each contributed an RBI single for CdM (1-10, 1-3 in league).

In the sixth inning, Evan Larsen belted a triple with the bases loaded and two out.

Sage Hill 8, Brethren Christian 1

Parker Reposa earned the win and moved to 4-0 on the season giving up no earned runs and only one hit, while striking out five in five innings in an Academy League game Tuesday.

Conner Bock came in to finish the the last two innings and earned the save.

Junior Brian Slaughter had two singles and an RBI for Sage Hill (7-3, 2-1 in league).

Reposa reached base three times with two walks and a hit by pitch. He stole three bases and scored twice.

The teams meet again on Friday in Huntington Beach at 3 p.m.

Estancia 26, Saddleback 9

Jackson Letterman went four for four with six runs scored, three RBIs, a double and three stolen bases for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Tuesday.

Jason Rodriguez (three for four, three runs scored, four RBIs, and two doubles), Connor Brown (four for five, two runs scored, seven RBIs, and a double), Aaron Boaitey (four for six, two runs scored, four RBIs and two triples) and Dylan Laurent (three for three with three runs scored) also contributed for Estancia (5-6, 4-2 in league).

Jacob Mullison (2-0) went four innings to pick up the win, giving up two runs (1 earned) on two hits with three strikeouts. The Eagles finished with 22 hits, seven walks with six extra base hits.

Estancia plays host to Calvary Chapel Friday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 10, Whitney 8

CERRITOS — The Lightning defeated Whitney in Academy League boys’ tennis for the first time in five tries and the first time in three years.

Senior Eric Magliarditi had been the only player on the Lightning team to have a win over the Wildcats until Tuesday’s win. That was the year Sage won the Academy League and a CIF Southern Section title. Whitney beat Sage three times in 2012, twice in league and in the semifinals of the playoffs, and twice in 2013.

Sage’s No. 2 singles Omead Moini, No. 3 singles David Kim, and No. 1 doubles Eric Magliarditi/Kenan Torlic won in the first round to tie the score 3-3. The score was 7-5 for Sage after the second round as Sage’s No. 1 singles Adam Langevin, Moini, No. 2 doubles Gordon Strelow/Shayan Emtiaz, and No. 3 doubles Kian Etedali/Grant Janavs, had wins. Sage took three wins in the last round as Langevin won in singles and Magliarditi/Torlic and Strelow/Emtiaz won in doubles.

Sage Hill is in second place in the Academy League with a 2-1 record and plays league leader Crean Lutheran (3-0) Thursday at home.

Newport Harbor 15, Edison 3

David Schaefer and Phillip Vu swept in doubles, not dropping a game for the Sailors in Tuesday’s Sunset League match at home.

Sean Perrier and Garrett Byers also swept in doubles, improving their record to 29-1 for Newport Harbor (9-1, 3-0 in league). Reese Stalder and Gavin Leonard swept in singles. Stalder didn’t drop a game and is now 22-0 this season.

Newport Harbor plays host to Fountain Valley on Thursday.

Sage Hill 10, Whitney 8

CERRITOS — The Lightning beat Whitney for the first time in three years in Tuesday’s Academy League match on the road.

Adam Langevin and Omead Moini each won twice in singles for Sage Hill, as did Eric Magliarditi and Kenan Torlic in doubles.

Sage Hill is 4-3, 2-1 in league and plays host to first-place Crean Lutheran on Thursday at The Tennis Club.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 192, University 210

IRVINE — Hale and Chase Furey both shot even-par 36 to earn medalist honors in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday at Strawberry Farms Golf Course.

Karick Brown (39), Drew Hanson (42), Ian Fletcher (43) and John Hong (43) also scored for CdM (9-2, 4-1 in league).

Fountain Valley 209, Newport Harbor 216

Brad Tapfer and Thomas Terry each shot five-over par 41 for the Sailors on Tuesday’s Sunset League match at Big Canyon Country Club.

Mason Moody (42), Ryan Standt (44) and Landon Knight (48) also scored for Newport Harbor (5-5, 0-5 in league).

The Sailors play Edison on Wednesday at Santa Ana Country Club.

Lakewood 202, Estancia 203

LONG BEACH — Kobi Uta shot 39 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in the nonleague match Monday at Skylinks Golf Course.

Brad Erhorn (40), Jaime Ramirez (41), Davon Ortiz (41) and Connor Pierce (42) also scored for Estancia (4-5).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Woodbridge

IRVINE — Joey Martino and Ryan Moss had six kills each to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-6, 25-6, 25-11 Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.

Andrew Boukather and Will Hunter added five kills each, while Matt Ctvrtlik finished with 21 assists for CdM (13-2, 3-0 in league), which recorded 12 aces for the match.

Brett Shisler (10 assists, three aces, two digs, one block) and Sam Kobrine (four kills) also contributed for the Sea Kings, who play host to Northwood on Thursday.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Edison 104, Newport Harbor 66

Sailors senior Marissa Robertson won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly in Tuesday’s Sunset League meet at Newport Harbor High.

Robertson touched in 24.62 seconds to win the free, then won the fly in a lifetime-best 59.63 seconds. She also anchored the 200 free relay team that also featured Carlee Kapana, Cleo Harrington and Heidi Fults and won in 1:42.65.

Newport Harbor is 1-1 in league.
