Musselman earns top award

Corona del Mar High sophomore Maddie Musselman has been named the Pacific Coast Lague MVP for girls’ water polo after helping the Sea Kings win another league title.

CdM sophomore goalkeeper Heidi Ritner earned first-team goalie honors, and CdM senior center Marina Coskinas and junior attacker Eliza Britt were also first-team all-league honorees.

Musselman, a U.S. national team player, led the Sea Kings in goals (81) and steals (48), and was second with 34 assists. She also led the defensive effort with 18 field blocks.

Musselman helped CdM go 24-5, and 10-0 in league for their 15th straight league title. The Sea Kings advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinals before falling in sudden-death overtime to Santa Barbara.

Ritner made 214 saves in her first year starting on varsity, including seven games with at least 10 saves.

Coskinas, bound for USC, was second on the Sea Kings with 46 goals, adding 13 assists and 16 steals. Britt finished with 44 goals, third on the team, and added 31 assists and 35 steals.

University of Michigan-bound senior defender Annie Mortimer, as well as senior Bobbi Hoose and junior Grace Morgan, earned second-team all-league status.
