High School Roundup: Sage Hill scores big win against St. Margaret’s

Sage Hill 4, St. Margaret’s 2

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Kellen Ochi and Harrison Rhee each singled in a run during a four-run top of the seventh inning by the Lightning in an Academy League opener on the road Tuesday.

Sage Hill pitcher Parker Reposa (3-0) went the distance against the No. 7-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll. He struck out four, and allowed four hits and no earned runs.

Sage Hill (6-2, 1-0 in league) plays host to rival St. Margaret’s on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Laguna Beach 11, Estancia 2

LAGUNA BEACH — Aaron Boaitey went two for two with a run batted in and a double in the Eagles’ Orange Coast League road game on Tuesday.

Estancia’s Colin Gardner went one for two and was a hit by a pitch.

Jackson Letterman, Jacob Mullison and Kohl Ponsford each had a hit for the Eagles (4-5, 3-1 in league).

Estancia plays host to Godinez on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

University 6, Corona del Mar 0

IRVINE — Sam Younesi doubled for the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League road game on Tuesday.

Tyler Duncan and Teddy Stuka each singled for CdM (0-9, 0-2 in league).

The Sea Kings are at home against Beckman on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 12, St. Margaret’s 6

SAN CLEMENTE — Freshman Adam Langevin swept at No. 1 singles for the Lightning in Tuesday’s Academy League match on the road.

Senior team captain Eric Magliarditi and sophomore Kenan Torlic swept at No. 1 doubles for the Lightning (4-3, 1-1 in league), who won five sets in the first round against their rivals. Freshman Omead Moini and junior Shayan Emtiaz each won twice in singles.

Sage Hill plays host to the Horace Mann School of New York on Thursday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach, before hosting the Lightning Invitiational tournament Friday and Saturday. Crean Lutheran, Tesoro and Newport Harbor are the other teams participating in the Lightning Invitational.

Corona del Mar 14, Irvine 4

Ryan Andrews swept in singles in Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League match, while Carson Williams and Bjorn Hoffmann swept in doubles.

CdM is 7-1, 2-0 in league. The Sea Kings play host to San Clemente in a nonleague match Wednesday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Newport Harbor 9, Yorba Linda 5

Senior team captain Alex Palmer had five goals for the Sailors in Tuesday night’s Sunset League game at home.

Palmer also caused two turnovers, had two ground balls and one draw control for the Sailors (6-1, 2-0 in league). The defense, led by senior captain Jenna Nulty, held strong, while Mia Bagiu, Allana Rockwell, Montana Mattox and Katelyn Gallegos also played well.

Newport Harbor plays host to Valencia on Thursday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 191, Irvine 206

Karick Brown of the Sea Kings shot one-over-par 36 with one birdie and shared medalist honors with Irvine’s Andrew Liao in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Hale Furey, Chase Furey and Drew Hanson each shot 38, while John Hong and Ian Fletcher both finished at 41 for CdM (6-1, 3-0 in league).

The Sea Kings play against Northwood at Newport Beach Country Club on Wednesday.

Huntington Beach184, Newport Harbor 193

Brad Tapfer shot one-under-par 34 to lead the Sailors in the Sunset League match at SeaCliff Country Club Tuesday.

Mason Moody (37), Brandon Knight (39), Connor Davidson (40) and Thomas Terry (43) also scored for Newport Harbor (5-2, 0-2 in league).
