PHOENIX — Alexandra Olvera threw a five-inning one-hit shutout to help visiting Vanguard University sweep Golden State Athletic Conference rival Arizona Christian on Saturday.

Olvera struck out three and walked three in a 10-0 Game 2 win that followed the Lions' 2-1 opening-game win in seven innings.

Taylor Hallahan and Summer Penner drove in runs with hits in the opener.

Breanne Gomez was three for three with three runs batted in in the second game, in which both Shelby Kuryllo and Haley Croce were two for three with two RBIs.

Taylor Wilson and Brittany Cooper were two for three with one RBI apiece and Hallahan was two for four in Game 2.

Rachel Stalford allowed six hits and one unearned run to improve to 10-3.

Vanguard is now 23-12, 5-5 in conference.

The Firestorm is 8-18, 1-9.

Spring Break Invitational

UC Irvine junior Itos Aikhionbare won the shot put and discus throw on Saturday at UCI, the third consecutive week she has accomplished the feat.

Her shot put mark was 50 feet, 10 1/4 inches and she went 156-7 in the discus.

UCI freshman Megan George won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.94 seconds and freshman Ariel Cheng won the pole vault (12-5 1/2 , the second-best mark in UCI annals).

Chelsea Schneider (2:14.96) and Lauren Hall (2:15.95) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 800 and Ericka Nowell was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.09.

Kaulyn Lee-McNeill was fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.45.

Saniya Syed was fourth in the 400 in 57.65 and Melanie Speech was fourth in the javelin (120-3).

UCI finished third among eight teams with 114.5. Northern Arizona won with 155.5.

The Anteaters compete in the UC Riverside Spring Classic Thursday through Saturday.

Spring Break Invitational

Freshman Isaiah Thompson won the 800 meters, freshman Brandon Howard won the 400 hurdles and junior Mason Miller won the shot put to highlight UCI performances on Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

Thompson topped the field in 1 minute, 52.22 seconds, while Howard's winning time was 53.02.

Miller's winning mark was 55 feet, 9 inches. He was third in the discus (153-2).

Lloyd Sicard was second in the 110 high hurdles (14.29) and Stephen Brown was second in the pole vault (15-7).

Cameron Vaca (fourth in 400 hurdles in 54.60), James Douglas (fifth in the high hurdles in 14.61) and Kyle Hubbard (sixth in the high hurdles in 14.84) also stood out for the Anteaters.

UCI was fourth as a team, 57 points behind victorious Cal State Fullerton.
