High School Roundup: CdM reaches semifinals

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

OC Championships

Corona del Mar High swept Mater Dei in the Division 1 quarterfinals, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19, at CdM to advance to Saturday’s semfinals.

Matt Ctvrtlik amassed 27 assists. Joey Martino had 17 kills and three aces, while Tommy Brooks (six kills, three block assists), Will Hunter (five kills, one solo block, four block assists), Kevin Fults (four kills, two blocks) and Ryan Moss (eight kills, three aces) also contributed for CdM (9-1).

The Sea Kings face Edison in the semifinals at noon at Edison. The winner advances to Monday’s final at 7 p.m. at Edison, and the loser plays in the third-place match Saturday at 5 p.m.

CdM opened the tournament with a 25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-13 victory over JSerra.

Ctvrtlik (40 assists, one solo block, four block assists), Ben Cobrine (nine kills, four digs), Moss (seven kills), Martino (nine kills), Hunter (five kills, three blocks assists), Brooks (six kills, one solo block, four block assists) and Augie Miller (five kills) were all a part of the win.

OC Championships

Newport Harbor defeated Santa Margarita, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 27-25, at Newport Harbor to reach Saturday’s consolation semifinals in Division I.

Clay Carr had 19 kills, 10 digs and three aces, while Wyatt Walton recorded 18 kills for the Sailors (4-8).

Colin Schlesinger had 10 kills, Landon Monroe had 37 assists and Nic Sargeant had 16 digs.

Newport Harbor will play against Los Alamitos at noon at Huntington Beach High.

The Sailors lost to San Clemente to open the tournament, 25-12, 25-19, 25-17. Carr had 14 kills, Monroe had 19 assists and Sargeant had 10 digs

BASEBALL

Estancia 15, Costa Mesa 6

Jackson Letterman went two for four with three runs and a double to help the Eagles sweep their rivals in Orange Coast League action

Aaron Boaitey was one for one and drove in three runs with a double for Estancia (4-4, 3-0 in league).

Connor Brown (2-2) earned the win with three strikeouts in four innings. He gave up three earned runs.

Jason Rodriguez (two for five, two runs, two RBIs, two doubles), Brown (two for three, two runs, one RBI), Jacob Mullison (one for two, two runs, two RBIs, double), Cody Nelson (two for six, three RBIs) also contributed for the Eagles.

Estancia had 14 hits and 12 walks.

The Eagles play at Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

Woodbridge 6, Corona del Mar 5

Sam Younesi had two hits for the Sea Kings in their Pacific Coast League opener Friday.

Tyler Duncan, Teddy Stuka, Nick Premer and Nick Ontiveros also had hits, while Ryan Pierce, Brett Olson and Duncan drove in runs for CdM (0-8, 0-1).

Westminster 7, Sage Hill 6

Jack Pelc and Parker Reposa each drove in two runs for the Lightning in the nonleague game that went nine innings Friday.

Harrison Rhee had two hits and one run batted in for Sage Hill.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 4, San Clemente 3

Ben Palitz, Jay Damon, Sherwin Gersten and Jordan Greenhall scored for teh Sea Kings in the nonleague game Friday.

Jason Simaan won eight face-offs. Hoty Crance made seven saaves for CdM (4-0).

Hugh Crance made seven saves and shined on defense along with Huge Crance, Brian Leguay and Daniel McCabe.

CdM plays at Los Alamitos Wednesday at 7 p.m.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill Prep Classic

Oaks Christian and Windward Academy remain undefeated after three rounds in the seventh annual eent.

The four-team round-robin tournament plays a format of five singles and four doubles matches per match (best of nine) with team players allowed to play both singles and doubles. Each round has two teams playing five singles while two teams play four doubles matches.
