High School Roundup: NHHS, CdM boys’ volleyball both win twice in OC Championships

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Orange County Championships

Corona del Mar High won its first two pool-play matches Friday at CdM, as the Sea Kings swept Santa Margarita, 25-13, 25-16, and Marina, 25-16, 25-20.

Will Hunter had five kills and a block against Santa Margarita for CdM (7-3). Ryan Moss had four kills, two blocks and three digs, while Sam Kobrine (four digs) and Kevin Fults (one block) also had four kills. Augie Miller had three kills and three blocks.

Connor Devarian had seven kills against Marina, with Fults adding five kills and Moss contributing four. Matt Ctvrtlik had nine assists.

CdM, which has clinched a spot in the tournament’s gold division, will play Foothill in its final pool play game Saturday at 9 a.m. at CdM. Gold division play (top eight) will follow at Edison High.

Orange County Championships

Newport Harbor scored pool-play wins over Orange Lutheran, 25-23, 25-21, and Esperanza, 23-25, 26-24, 15-13, Friday at home.

The Sailors face San Clemente at 9 a.m. to close out pool play.

Coach Rocky Ciarelli said Newport Harbor earned the wins with “a good team effort.”

BOYS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 13, St. Margaret’s 5

The Lightning swept in singles with Omead Moini, Kenan Torlic and Adam Langevin in the Academy League match Friday.

Moini won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 and Torlic won 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

BASEBALL

Los Alamitos 4, Newport Harbor 0

LOS ALAMITOS — Luke Genova had two doubles for the Sailors in their Sunset League opener on Friday.

Both teams had four hits. Pitcher Jonah Dipoto pitched five innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs for the Sailors (6-4).

Calvary Chapel 5, Estancia 4

Connor Brown was two for four with two runs batted in and a run scored for Estancia in the Orange Coast League opener at TeWinkle Park Friday night.

Brown pitched a complete game giving up four earned runs on five hits and seven strikeouts.

Colin Gardner was one for three with an RBI, and Brian Rodriguez was one for four with a run for Estancia (2-5), which plays host to rival Costa Mesa on Tuesday.
