Boys’ Golf: CdM finishes third at CIF-SS South Coast Team Divisional

The Corona del Mar High boys’ golf team came up short in its bid to three-peat as the CIF Southern Section South Coast Team Divisional champion.

The Sea Kings finished third at Talega Golf Club in San Clemente Monday. That meant they also missed advancing to the CIF Southern Section SCGA Team Qualifier, as the top two teams advanced.

Beckman, the Pacific Coast League champion, won the South Coast Team Divisional title with a 374 on the par-72 course. Tesoro finished second at 376 and CdM shot the same score as last year, 380.

Villa Park followed at 383 and Dana Hills was fifth at 384.

The conditions were favorable for golf, CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said, but the course proved to be challenging.

Senior Hale Furey, the Pacific Coast League champion bound for Harvard University, led the Sea Kings with his even-par finish. Ian Fletcher shot 74 and Karick Brown carded a 76, while Drew Hanson and Chase Furey both shot 79.
