High School Roundup: CdM sweeps Laguna Beach

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Laguna Beach

Ryan Moss and Joey Martino (four digs) recorded 11 kills each to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-19, 27-25, 25-21 nonleague win at CdM Tuesday.

Kevin Fults (eight kills), Tommy Brooks (three kills and four blocks), Matt Ctvrtlik (36 assists, five digs and three aces) and libero Tommy Casey had five digs for CdM (7-1).

Mira Costa def. Newport Harbor

Clay Carr had 16 kills to lead the Sailors, who lost, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19, in nonleague action at Newport Harbor Tuesday.

The Sailors (2-7) play host to Los Alamitos Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 10, Los Alamitos 8

LOS ALAMITOS — Sophomores Oliver Kim and Ari Coskinas won two doubles sets, including the decisive one in the Sea Kings’ nonleague victory Tuesday on the road.

Bjorn Hoffmann and Ryan Andrews each won two singles sets for CdM (5-1). Carson Williams and Jonathan Rhone won twice in doubles.

Corona del Mar is ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 5, and Los Al is ranked No. 4.

The Sea Kings open Pacific Coast League play Wednesday at home against Northwood, ranked No. 8 in Division 1.

Newport Harbor 13, St. Margaret’s 5

Reese Stalder won twice before being subsituted out and remained undefeated this season after the nonleague match Tuesday at Newport Harbor.

Sean Perrier and Garrett Byers swept at No. 1 doubles and have lost just one set this season.

Garrett Hall won twice with Phillip Vu and won his last set with Peirce Ward, at No. 3 doubles for Newport Harbor (8-1)

David and Mark Schaefer won two sets before being subbed out at No. 2 doubles.

The Sailors won at Tesoro, 13-5, on Monday, Stalder swept.

Newport Harbor opens Sunset League play March 27 at Huntington Beach.

BASEBALL

Sage Hill 5, Tarbut V’Torah 1

Parker Reposa struck out nine and allowed two hits and four walks to help the Lightning to the nonleague win Tuesday.

Adam Ellingson went two for three with two runs. Harrison Rhee drove in two runs.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Costa Mesa 80, Los Amigos 79

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Raymond Andrade was first in the 200-yard freestyle for the Mustangs, who edged out Tuesday’s nonleague meet.

Andrade touched first in 1 minute, 59.40 seconds Andrew Nguyen was first in the 200 individual medley (2:29.47), while Tyler Connors won the 100 breast (1:10.88) and placed second in the 50 free (23.68).

Corbin Fisher was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:45.64 for Mesa, which opens the Orange Coast League with a meet at Laguna Beach on March 26.

Estancia 77, La Quinta 73

Jason Chesemore won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.06) and 100 butterfly 1:10.00 to help Estancia win the nonleague meet.

Eli Sperling won the 500 freestyle (6:21.66) and Kyle Fitzgerald won the 50 free (25.49) for Estancia.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Los Amigos 80, Costa Mesa 79

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — The Mustangs swept the top three spts in the 200-yard freestyle in Tuesday’s nonleague meet.

Lauren Smith touched first in 2 minutes, 9.99 seconds, followed by Bridgette Smitheram (2:21.31) and Yesennia Villa (2:24.52). Smith also was first in the 100 freestyle, in 59.37 seconds.

Villa placed first in the 500 free (6:19.88), as did Smitheram in the 100 backstroke (1:12.29). Devon Christensen, Villa, Smitheram and Smith touched first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:56.76).

BOYS’ GOLF

Estancia 186, Costa Mesa 242

Freshman Kobi Uta shot one-under-par 34 to earn medalist honors and lead the Eagles to the Orange Coast League-opening win Tuesday at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course.

Davin Ortiz (35), Jaime Ramirez (38), Parker Ohland (39) and Gunnar Johnston (40) also scored for Estancia (2-4, 1-0 in league.

Three-way match

Led by medalists Hale Furey and John Hong Corona del Mar High (192) defated Dana Hills (207) and Villa Park (201) at Newport Beach Country Club Tuesday.

Furey and Hong both shot two-over-par 37.

Chase Furey (38), Karick Brown (40) and Drew Hanson (40) also scored for CdM (5-0), which plays agaisnt Dana Hills Wednesday at El Niguel Country Club.
