INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The No. 2 seeded Lions fell to No. 7 Southern-New Orelans in the first round of the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship Wednesday.
Amber Alexander led the Lions (22-8) with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Southern-New Orleans (22-4), which was previously winless in two prior trips to the national championship, advances to the second round to play No. 3 Montana State-Northern at 2:15 p.m. CDT.

Irvine Valley def. Orange Coast
The Lasers outlasted the Pirates in an epic Pacific Coast Conference match, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 31-33, 16-14, Wednesday.
Adrain Faitalia led OCC (9-4, 6-1 in conference) with 23 kills, while Nick Amado added 19, Kamaha’o Paio added nine and Brandon Dau knocked in eight. Faitalia also led the team with eight digs, while Paio and Steven Duhoux contributed seven each. Duhoux dished out 58 assists for the Pirates as well.
The Lasers are 9-3, 7-1.
