UC Irvine 4, San Jose State 1

Senior left-hander Evan Manarino threw a complete-game four-hitter and freshman Cameron Bishop belted two home runs to lead the host Anteaters in the nonconference game Sunday.

Bishop was two for four with three runs batted in and two runs and now has three homers this season. His bombs, in back-to-back at-bats in the sixth and eighth innings, came after Keston Hiura drove in a run to tie the score, 1-1, in the sixth.

UCI (8-10) has already matched last year’s home run total with 12.

San Jose State fell to 7-12.

UCI plays host to Cal State Bakersfield in the first of a three-game nonconference series on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

MEN’S TENNIS

Vanguard 9, Hope International 0

The Lions dropped just one game in singles in the Golden State Athletic Conference match on Tuesday.

Stefan Kilchhofer, Fabio Silva and Michael Rjazanov each won, 6-0, 6-0.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Vanguard 9, Hope International

Sarah Edwards won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, to lead the sweep for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

Vanguard swept Arizona Christian, winning the first game, 7-3, and the nightcap, 11-3, in Golden State Athletic Conference action Tuesday.

Shelby Kuryllo racked up seven runs batted in, including four in the first game. She went four for five in the second game for the Lions (24-6, 9-3 in conference).

Summer Penner was two for five with two RBIs in the second game for Vanguard.
