UCI’s Aikhionbare earns Big West award

UC Irvine junior Itos Aikhionbare took home the season’s first Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors after she placed first in the discus throw (165 feet, 3 inches) and shotput (49-1) at the All-UC track and field Meet in La Jolla on Saturday.

Aikhionbare, who earned the Big West weekly award three times last spring, set a meet record in the discus.

The Anteaters play host to a four-way meet on Saturday against Long Beach State, Purdue and Cerritos College. The field events begin at 9 a.m. and track action starts at noon.
