ACTON — Claire Novotny and Juliette Singarella scored for the Lightning in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs Friday.

Taylor assisted on Novotny’s goal that came in the 24th minute. Julia Lowe had the assist on Singarella’s goals in the 72nd minute.

Tiffany Taylor and Rachael Jaffe stood out on defense for Sage Hill (13-5-4), while goalkeeper Kekai Whitford made four saves. Sage Hill had 11 shots on goal.

The Lightning play on Wednesday against the winner of Paloma Valley and Colton. Time and site yet to be determined.

Riverside Poly 4, Estancia 3, penalty kicks

The Eagles finished the season at 10-7-5 after losing in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs Friday.

After a 0-0 tie during regulation and overtime, Sarah Leahy, Samantha Falasco and Karla Rodriguez scored for Estancia during the penalty-kick shootout.

Eagles goalie Gianna Guyot competed with a broken finger on her right hand, Estancia Coach Jessica Perry said.

Eastern Division prelims

PERRIS — Newport Harbor High’s James Pilz, a 160-pounder, won twice Friday to advance to Saturday’s semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Eastern Division Individual Wrestling Championshps at Citrus Hills High.

Pilz begins competition Saturday at 11 a.m.

Central Division prelims

RIVERSIDE — Corona del Mar High seniors Chris Croxton, Adam Reines and Kaden Ebbinga advanced to day two of the CIF Southern Section Central Division Individual Wrestling Championships at Riverside Norte Vista High Friday.

Croxton (128 pounds) went 3-1 Friday, while Reines (140) and Ebbinga (148) both went 2-1.

Sophomores David Kaye (115), Eric Asarrio (195) and Matt Morton (220) competed but failed to advance.
