Biola 81, Vanguard 76

LA MIRADA – Maya Kennedy had 23 points and made four of eight three-point attempts for the visiting No. 8-ranked Lions, who were upset in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Riley Holsinger had 18 points and six rebounds, while Samantha Doucette and Jaime Goff chipped in 12 points apiece for Vanguard (19-6, 11-4 in conference).

Biola (16-12, 8-6), made 11 of 19 from three-point range (57.9%).

Cal State Northridge 82, UC Irvine 60

NORTHRIDGE – Tierra Hicks had 16 points and seven rebounds for the visiting Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Saturday.

Shereen Sutherland had 12 points and Mokun Fajemisin added seven points and nine rebounds for UCI (5-22, 2-10 in conference).

Cal State Northridge is 18-9, 8-5.

BASEBALL

Doubleheader

BERKELEY – Nonconference host Cal swept UC Irvine earning a 10-3 triumph in the opener, then prevailing, 4-1, Saturday.

UCI (0-6) managed just four hits in Game 2, when it was led by center fielder Evan Cassolato, who was two for four with one run batted in.

In the first game, freshman Keston Hiura went three for four with two RBIs to pace the ‘Eaters.

Matt Esparza gave up four runs and seven hits over five innings to take the Game 2 loss, while Shaun Vetrovec, a Newport Harbor High product, allowed seven hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings to get the other loss.

Sean Sparling pitched three shutout relief innings in Game 1.

The series concludes Sunday.

Doubleheader

SANTA BARBARA – Vanguard University split with Golden State Athletic Conference host Westmont on Saturday.

The Lions earned a 6-5 win in Game 1, led by Brock Eissman, who went two for four with a three-run home run and four runs batted in.

Justin Vega was three for five with one RBI for the Lions, who had four hits in a 1-0 loss in Game 2.

Jordan Moak allowed one run and three hits in 5 1/3 innings to absorb his first loss in four decisions in the second game.

Vanguard is 14-6, 11-4 in conference.

Westmont is 14-5, 9-4.

Orange Coast 4, Canyons 3

Jake Pulcheon was three for four and Jack Kruger went two for three with two runs batted in to pace the host Pirates in the nonconference game Saturday.

Art Vidrio allowed six hits and two earned runs, while striking out five to improve to 2-1 for OCC (9-5).

Canyons is 6-3.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 66, Biola 54

LA MIRADA – Zach Allmon had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Keith Mason had 13 points and eight rebounds and Chris Gorman added 13 points for the winners (15-12, 7-7 in conference.

Vanguard shot 51.8% from the field (29 for 56).

Biola is 16-11, 4-9.
