RIVERSIDE — The visiting Pirates lost a share of the Orange Empire Conference championship Friday as sophomore Mikayla Stitt made two free throws with 19 seconds left for the difference in the final conference game and regular-season finale.

OCC (18-8, 9-3 in conference) finishes one game behind OEC champion Saddleback, which won Friday.

Sophomore Chanelle Di Croce had 22 points and seven rebounds for the Pirates, for whom Jasmine Matar had 10 points and eight rebounds and Raechelle Davis had 11 rebounds and seven points.

OCC shot 27.1% from the field.

Riverside is 7-19, 2-10.

BASEBALL

Wright State 3, UC Irvine 1

Junior standouts Taylor Sparks and Connor Spencer each had their first hit of the season, but no Anteater had more than one of the hosts’ six hits in the Long Beach State tournament opener Friday at Anteater Ballpark.

Junior Travis Hissong allowed three hits and one run in seven innings to earn the win, as the Raiders (2-2) scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings, both unearned, to pull away.

Sparks, who drove in the lone UCI run, is now one for 18 this season, while Spencer is one for 20.

Elliot Surrey allowed two runs in five innings to absorb the loss for UCI (2-3).

The Anteaters play host to Arizona State in tournament action Saturday at 1 p.m.

Vanguard 6, San Diego Christian 5

The host Lions opened leads of 4-0 and 6-2, then held on in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Friday.

Ian Sakray was two for three with one run batted in and Nick Rodda was one for four with two RBIs for the winners (10-6, 5-5 in conference).

Marshall McKinnon (2-0) allowed six hits and three runs in seven innings to earn the win and Eddie Rivera finished up for his first save.

San Diego Christian (14-4, 7-3) made three errors, leading to two unearned runs.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE — UC Irvine junior opposite Zack La Cavera had a match-high 18 kills to lead the visiting Anteaters to a 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 25-17 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win Friday.

Jeremy Dejno had 14 kills, while Connor Hughes and Scott Kevorken added 10 apiece for No. 7-ranked UCI (10-8, 7-7 in conference), which received 49 assists from Roberto Frazzoni.

The No. 15-ranked Matadors are 4-9, 4-8.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Riverside 84, Orange Coast 83 (OT)

RIVERSIDE — D.J. Muerpo scored with 2:29 left in overtime for the deciding margin in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday that ended the Pirates’ season.

Brad Buchignani had 28 points and Devaun Evans added 27 for OCC (9-20, 3-9 in conference).

Noah Prouse had 10 points and five assists for OCC.

Riverside is 12-17, 6-6.

MEN’S TENNIS

Cal Poly SLO 6, UC Irvine 1

Monathan Hammel earned a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7) win at No. 4 singles to produce the only point for the host Anteaters in the Big West Conference opener on Friday.

Tyler Pham and Shuhei Shibahara combined for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, but the Mustangs (1-7) won the doubles point.

UCI is 2-8.
