Newport Harbor High girls’ water polo senior Ellie Reid has committed to George Washington University for women’s water polo, she confirmed Sunday.

“I love how it’s on the east coast and that it’s in the heart of D.C.,” Reid wrote in a Twitter message. “Also, they have a new coach [interim coach Adam Foley] who seems like a great guy.”

Reid, a left-hander, has 39 goals, a co-team best 23 assists and 13 steals for Newport Harbor. She is the sixth member of the Sailors to commit to an NCAA Division 1 program, following goalie Carlee Kapana (UCLA), Rachel Whitelegge (UCLA), Isabel Leveque (Marist), Kate Pipkin (Indiana) and Chanel Schilling (UC San Diego).
