WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 104, Arizona Christian 41

Senior guard Taylor Belmont had a triple-double to lead the No. 1-ranked host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

Belmont had 29 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes to help the Lions improve to 21-0, 10-0 in conference. Belmont made 12 of 17 field-goal attempts, including three of four from three-point range.

Nicole Ballestero (11), Samantha Doucette (11), Lauren Martin (11) and Ashley Land (10) also scored in double figures for the winners, who shot 54.4% from the field.

The Lions are three games ahead of Hope International and The Master’s College with four regular-season conference games remaining.

Arizona Christian is 5-19, 0-10.

Orange Coast 55, Santa Ana 53

Sophomore Chanelle Di Croce had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Thursday.

It was the seventh straight win for the Pirates (17-9, 8-2 in conference), who remain tied for first with Saddleback.

Jasmine Matar had 10 points and eight rebounds, Raechelle Davis had 13 points, five rebounds and five steals, and Dayanara Armenta had 11 points and four rebounds to lead the winners.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. USC

Zack La Cavera had 17 kills and Jeremy Dejno added 16 to lead the host Anteaters to a 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13 win in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Thursday.

Collin Mehring had six block assists and five kills, while Connor Hughes, Dejno and Kyle Russell had two aces apiece for the winners (8-7, 5-6 in conference).

Roberto Frazzoni had 48 assists for UCI.

USC, which received six kills from Corona del Mar High product Joey Booth, is 6-5, 5-5.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Arizona Christian 82, Vanguard 79

Chris Gorman had 27 points and Preston Wynne added 25 for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Thursday.

The loss dropped No. 9-ranked Vanguard to 21-4, 8-2 in conference. It still has a two-game lead in the loss column on its closes GSAC competitor.

Gorman made seven of 17 field-goal attempts, including four of five from three-point range, while Wynne made five three-pointers to help the Lions shoot 50% from threedom (12 for 24).

Vanguard led by as many as nine in the first half.

Arizona Christian is 19-5, 5-5.

Santa Ana 80, Orange Coast 70

Devaun Evans had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Thursday.

Noah Prouse added 13 points for OCC (8-19, 2-8 in conference), who made nine of 17 three-point attempts (52.9%), but lost the rebounding (37-28) and turnover (19-14) battles.

Santa Ana is 15-9, 9-1.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

UCLA 6, UC Irvine 5

The No. 3-ranked Bruins scored the game-winner with 1:36 left in the nonconference game on Thursday.

Jessy Cardey had two goals for the No. 5-ranked Anteaters (9-4), for whom Jillian Yocum had seven saves.

UCLA is now 12-1.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UC Irvine 4, Cal State Fullerton 3

FULLERTON — Ali Facey won in singles and doubles to pace the visiting Anteaters in the Big West Conference match Thursday.

Facey defeated Corona del Mar High product Kalika Slevcove, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and teamed with Franziska Goettsching to earn a 7-6 (7) win at No. 1 doubles to help UCI improve to 3-3, 1-0 in conference.

The Titans are 1-6, 0-3.
