Football: CdM’s Carter commits to Georgetown

Earlier this month, Corona del Mar High football coach Scott Meyer had one question for Harrison Carter.

“Do you have any interest in playing for Georgetown?” Carter said Meyer asked him, and Carter quickly responded with, “Of course I would.”

Meyer put Georgetown in contact with Carter, and over the weekend, the senior defensive end wound up visiting the prestigious school in Washington, D.C. When he returned to CdM on Monday, Carter said he committed to Georgetown.

Carter, who finished with 10.5 sacks and 46 tackles this past season, said he chose Georgetown over possible preferred walk-on opportunities at Vanderbilt and Washington, as well as playing at Ivy League schools such as Penn, Harvard and Brown. Georgetown, an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision program, went 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the Patriot League last season.

“I can see myself playing for the program and the coaches, and going to school there,” said Carter, who earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League, third-team All-Orange County and Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team honors after helping the Sea Kings repeat as undefeated Pacific Coast League champions and reach the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs.

“I would like to thank Coach Meyer for his help. He does a lot for the players at CdM. Three weeks ago, he asked me if I was interested in Georgetown. I didn’t know what to expect. Now I’m going to Georgetown.”

Carter, who has a 4.26 grade-point average at CdM, said he plans to study business at Georgetown.
