Five Sea Kings honored by CalHiSports.com

Corona del Mar High senior center Giovanni Gentosi and senior quarterback Luke Napolitano made the CalHiSports.com All-State Medium Schools First Team, and Scott Meyer earned the CalHiSports.com All-State Medium Schools Coach of the Year award, as the three played instrumental roles during the Sea Kings’ unprecedented football season.

During the 2012 season, CdM claimed its second straight undefeated Pacific Coast League title, its third straight CIF Southern Section Southern Division title, its first CIF State Division III Bowl Game title, and it became the first high school football team in California to finish a season 16-0.

Corona del Mar wide receiver Bo St. Geme made the CalHiSports.com All-State Medium Schools Second Team for juniors, and running back Cole Martin the CalHiSports.com All-State Medium Schools Third Team for juniors.

Gentosi went 40-4 during his three years as a CdM starter. He won his final 26 games, helping the Sea Kings own the state’s current longest winning streak.

Gentosi earned MaxPreps All-American Small Schools Football Team, CIF Southern Section Southern Division Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Orange County, Pacific Coast League MVP and Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team Player of the Year accolades.

Gentosi anchored a CdM offense that averaged 219.1 rushing yards, 171.9 passing yards and 34.3 points per game. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the University of San Diego, Chapman University, and the University of Redlands are interested in Gentosi, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder.

Napolitano set two CdM single-season school records, passing for 2,645 yards and completing 197 passes. He threw for 25 touchdowns, with 11 interceptions, and completed 62.3% of his passes.

Napolitano’s career numbers for passing yards (2,703) and completions (203) are tops at CdM.

Napolitano, who rushed for 272 yards and 12 touchdowns, garnered All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division, first-team All-Pacific Coast League and Dream Team honors.

Napolitano is making an official visit to the University of San Diego this weekend, said his father, Augie.

Meyer has led CdM to a 40-4 overall record and 14-1 mark in league during his three seasons in charge. He guided the Sea Kings to a 27-15 win against Atherton Sacred Heart Prep in the CIF State Division III Bowl Game at the StubHub Center in Carson.

St. Geme, an All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division, first-team All-Pacific Coast League and Dream Team pick, tied the CdM single-season record for receptions with 60. He finished with 750 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns.

Martin set three CdM single-season records, rushing for 1,870 yards, rushing for 21 touchdowns, and totaling 126 points. He earned All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division, second-team All-Orange County, first-team All-Pacific Coast League and Dream Team laurels.
