Vanguard 53, Westmont 50

SANTA BARBARA — Maya Kennedy scored 16 points to lead the No. 12-ranked Lions past No. 17 Westmont in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Tuesday.

Samantha Doucette added 15 points and Amber Alexander grabbed 10 rebounds to go with her four points for Vanguard (14-5, 6-3 in conference).

Westmont is 17-5, 4-5.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Westmont 56, Vanguard 52

SANTA BARBARA — Chris Gorman scored 15 points to lead the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Tuesday.

John Staats and Zach Allmon (nine rebounds) added nine points each for Vanguard (14-8, 6-3 in conference).

Westmont is 15-8, 7-2.

UC Irvine 78, Hawaii 72

HONOLULU — The Anteaters moved into a three-way tie for first with their third straight Big West Conference road win on Saturday in front of 8,761 at the Stat Sheriff Center.

Senior Luke Davis made eight of 12 field-goal attempts to net a team-high 17 points and added eight rebounds for the winners (11-8, 4-1 in conference).

Alex Young had 1 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot, while Jaron Martin had 12 points, including three-of-three shooting from three-point range.

Luke Nelson had nine points and five assists, while John Ryan chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds as UCI shot 51.9% from the field and made 10 of 15 three-point tries.

Hawaii is 14-7, 2-3.

UCI, tied with Long Beach State and UC Davis atop the conference standings, plays host to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Thursday at 7 p.m.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Princeton

Kyle Russell had 11 kills, while Tamir Hershko and Zack La Cavera added 10 apiece to propel the host Anteaters to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 nonconference sweep on Monday.

Hershko hit .533 and matched La Cavera with a team-best three aces.

La Cavera added a career-high eight block assists, while Jason Agopian had five kills in six attempts for an .833 percentage.

Michael Saeta had 30 assists and a team-best seven digs for the No. 4-ranked winners (8-2), who play host to Hawaii on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Princeton is 1-4.
