Football: Grant now a coach at OCC

Share

Wally Grant, who stepped down as football coach at Costa Mesa High in December, has joined the Orange Coast College staff as running backs coach, Pirates Coach Kevin Emerson said Thursday.

Grant was 21-21 in four seasons in charge of the Mustangs, for whom he was defensive coordinator in 2010 and worked as an assistant from 1992-94.

Grant, a former running back at Costa Mesa, was an assistant coach at Tustin High from 1995-2005, where he worked with standouts such as former NFL and UCLA running back DeShaun Foster.

“Wally provides quality insight and will help our offense prepare for our opponents,” Emerson said. “Wally also offers many years of experience. In building the OCC staff, I want to be around coaches that have good coaching experience to draw from.”

OCC was 3-7 in Emerson’s first season last fall.
