LA MIRADA — Designated hitter Brett Collins drove in two runs and Sean Isaac worked six quality innings to propel the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener Friday.

Isaac allowed three hits and one run while striking out five in six innings to get the win and help Vanguard (4-0) remain unbeaten.

Sam Frakes got the final two outs for the save, while Jose Reyes (one run batted in) and Paul Keating led the Lions’ seven-hit attack with two hits apiece.

Biola is 1-1.

SOFTBALL

Doubleheader

Vanguard University opened its season with a sweep of visiting La Sierra on Friday, following a 9-1 victory in Game 1 with a 10-0 trouncing in nonconference play.

Haley Croce drove in four runs in the first game to help Rachel Stalford earn the win by allowing one hit in three shutout innings.

Payton Ross was three for three with four runs batted in in the second game for the Lions.

Taylor Hallahan was four for six with two RBIs, and Brittney Boggs was four for seven with four RBIs in the two games.

Alexandra Olvera threw four shutout innings to earn the Game 2 win.
